Far more than just recapping the movies which initially started its story, the series significantly expands the universe of Dragon Ball, even going so far as introducing an entire multiverse that has been the focus of several storylines. So far, the series has already run for an impressive 77 chapters and 16 collected volumes. While it's undeniable that Super only exists because of the fans, it's actually fan expectations that are holding the sequel series back from true greatness.įirst debuting in 2015 from series creator Akira Toriyama and artist Toyotarou, Dragon Ball Super follows the continued adventures of Goku as he fights to protect his friends and world from dangerous new threats.
Though the series' revival initially started with a pair of fairly well-received movies in Battle of the Gods and Ressurection F, fan response and demand was so high that these movies were quickly adapted into a manga series that eventually spun out into telling its own original story. Given its unreasonable success, it was no surprise when Dragon Ball received a sequel in Dragon Ball: Super.
